Nurses

Woke up late today around 7 and laid in bed for a while. There are fewer patients today and they're cleaning up the hospital for the arrival of new visitors. Three nurses from Spain are coming for the next two weeks and they should be here around midday.

I hung around in the outpatient office for a while studying anatomy and asking questions between the trickle of patients. The nurses showed up around noon. Ana, Kristina and Goreti are all from Barcelona and heard about Citta from their friend Marta, a paramedic who comes here every few years.

It's exciting having other people here that I can speak English (and Spanish) with. Goreti speaks English well. Ana and Kristina can communicate as long as it's slow. They're having trouble understanding the think Indian accents so I translated a bunch today. They've been awake for two days because of the trip out here but they still came to play frisbee with us at 4. We also gave them a grand tour of the hosptial, schools, and village, which took all of twenty minutes. It's funny to see how little it takes to become a guide. I'm suddenly the Expert for both Juanga and all of India because I've been here for almost two weeks. Teaching them to eat with their hand and seeing how awkward they were was a little bit of Deja vu.

They unpacked and sorted the medical supplies they brought for a while and then came on a walk with us.

They rock climb (and live near mount serat) and run ultra marathons. We're going on a run tomorrow morning.

Later that night we went out the Juanga hang out spot (the bridge) and met the guys we usually hang out with. We danced a little and watched the stars before dinner.

When we got back to eat, Govinda came over and for the second time that day, serenaded me for several minutes with a song I'm pretty sure he was making up on the spot. I really need to learn some Odia so I can sing back. In the mean time, I'll just bust out some T-swift.

The nurses got a good introduction to the way of life here and I'm looking forward to having them around the next couple of weeks.

Gauva that someone picked for us. Took a picture in case we shouldn't have eaten it.
